Athens This Weekend: February 22 - 24

The Valentine's Day festivities may be over, but there's still plenty to do this weekend in Athens, Georgia! With one-of-a-kind cultural performances and exciting bowling tournaments, we're certain you'll want to gather up your family and friends and head to the Classic City ASAP. Here are just a few fun ideas to mark on your weekend calendar!



What a great opportunity to be a part of the Avid Poetry Series, where a variety of creative authors will read aloud from some of their best work. Featuring poets Cynthia Arrieu-King, Kate Greenstreet and Lily Brown, this relaxing event is sure to inspire. The reading will take place at 8: 30 p.m. at 145 Grady Ave., and admission is free! 


The magnificent culture, heritage and traditions of India are making their way to Athens, Georgia! Sponsored by the UGA Indian Cultural Exchange, India Night features amazing performances of dance, music and comedy. With more than 2,000 expected audience members, this show is bound to impress! The show will begin at 7 p.m. in the Classic Center, and tickets are $14 in advance and $16 at the door. 


The Super Bowl may be over, but the 2nd Annual Puppy Bowl is just around the corner! Benefiting the Athens Humane Society, the Puppy Bowl focuses on special needs adoptable cats and dogs. Join us at Ten Pins Tavern on Sunday, February 24 for an exciting raffle, delicious cocktails and a special Red Pin Bowling Challenge! The event will be held from 2 to 7 p.m., and admission is $12.50 per team member.

Athens This Weekend: February 24-26

There is so much to do this weekend in Athens! Whether you want to get outdoors and enjoy the weather with the family, attend musical events, or get ideas at the home and garden show, Athens, GA has it all!

With Spring approaching,  the spring cleaning and remodeling will soon begin! The Athens Area Home Builders Association's annual Home & Garden Show is the premier event for anyone considering remodeling their home, landscaping their yard or even building or buying their dream home. This event will take place at the Classic Center this Saturday from 10-5 p.m., and Sunday from Noon-5 p.m.

Join Our Sisterhood! Four women at a lingerie sale with nothing in common but a black lace bra AND memory loss, hot flashes, night sweats, and more! This hilarious musical parody set to classic tunes from the '60s, '70s and '80s will have you cheering and dancing in the aisles! See what millions of women worldwide have been laughing about for over 10 years! The show will take place at the Classic Center Theatre at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday; and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Planning a wedding? Help those wedding bells ring a little easier with this exciting event taking place in Athens,Georgia! Over 20 of northeast Georgia’s premium wedding vendors will be on hand to plan your big day including: photographers, florists, formal wear, wedding planners, pastry chefs, entertainment, transportation companies and more! Sample the cuisine of our award winning culinary team while perusing the latest bridal fashions & decor for the entire wedding party. This event will take place on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance, and $12 at the door.



These are only a few of the exciting events taking place in Athens,GA this weekend. Here are a few more ideas that you can hopefully squeeze into your weekend plans! 
  • Friday- Sunday: UGA Men's Baseball vs. Winthrop. Come support the Diamond Dogs as they take on the visiting team at Foley Field, in the heart of UGA's South Campus in Athens,GA. The game will be at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Friday The Chieftains at the Classic Center Theatre.The Chieftans are the best known traditional Irish band in the world. The show will be at 8:00 p.m. 
  • Saturday: Journey Through the Stars for Families at Sandy Creek Nature Center.Come see the planetarium program in the new Sky Center. We will journey through the night sky, exploring the great beyond.This event will be from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. and will be $7 for ACC families, and $10 for non- residents. This will be a fascinating experience for the entire family!

Athens, GA This Weekend: Jan. 27-29 Events and Things to Do

There is so much to do in Athens, GA this weekend.Whether you're looking for a good music scene, a place to take your family, or more cultural events, this weekend will surely not disappoint you! Pull out your calendar, and check out these great events!

1.Get ready to set sail and enjoy the smoothest sounds of the Yacht Rock Revue at The Georgia Theatre, this Friday, at 9 p.m. They will be playing all un-abrasive soft hits of the '70s and '80s. The Yacht Rock Revue has taken their rightful place as the smoothest party band in the universe. So push up the sleeves of your blazer, grab your highball class, and don't forget to groom your mustache. The Yacht Rock Revue is the Greatest Show on Surf.

2. Come out and support your local Gym Dogs this Saturday at 4 p.m. Join the legendary ten-time National Champion Gym Dogs in Stegeman Coliseum for high-energy athletics and first-rate showmanship. This evening's meet will also be Alumni Night.    




3. On Sunday, there will be not one, but two Bridal Shows in the Classic City! These events feature exhibitors from all of North Georgia. Brides are able to meet face to face with wedding professionals and find everything you need to create the wedding of your dreams. Experience fashion shows that will allow you to see and touch the latest styles and fashions. In addition to getting lots of great ideas and seeing the latest trends, you will be able to save time and money while also having fun! So for all of the future brides, mark down Sunday in your calendars for a day you will not want to miss with  The Georgia Bridal Show and The Athens Wedding Professionals Ultimate Bridal Show going on in Athens, GA!

  • The Third Annual Athens Got Talent will be Saturday, January 28. Come see and hear some of the most remarkable music talent in Northern, Georgia.Tickets are $10 at the door, and the show will start at 7 p.m.
  • Avid Bookshop is hosting two very special authors this weekend that you can meet! Poet Evie Shockley who is  the author of four collections of poetry, will be there on Saturday. Athens freelance writer, editor, and stylist Amy Flurry will be there on Sunday.
