Harry Bissett's Back and Better than Ever Jan. 15

Athens unfortunately did suffer from some restaurant closings in 2009. Just a brief reassurance that the closed doors at Harry Bissett's do NOT mean that they have joined the ranks. Instead, they are in the midst of a two-week deep cleaning and menu update. They will reopen by January 15, "refreshed and ready to eat and drink and laugh with our friends!"

Then why did they let their ENTIRE staff for both locations GO on Tuesday and why are both locations up for short sale...

There very well may have been developments since the email announcement we received upon which the blog post was based. We'll stay tuned, and certainly hope Bissett's will continue to be part of our Athens restaurant scene-- they were such a frontrunner for all the upscale dining options we now have and have played such a role in our community!

So the $75 gift certificate my daughter and son-in-law gave us for Christmas is now totally worthless. Funny, as we had their wedding reception in the blue room at the Mitchell Bridge location back in April 2009. Priceless also that the Flagpole's online Holiday Guide on Dec 15, 2009 noted Harry Bisset's was giving a 10% discount on gift certificates over $100. Quite a scoundrel... GL in Colbert 31Mar10

Karo, I'm sorry you weren't able to use your gift certificate. Gift cards' great weakness, I think, is cases just like these, when the retailer goes out of business prior to redemption. Clark Howard, the consumer advocate, heartily recommends sticking to cash gifts instead, for this very reason. Cash just doesn't seem as festive, though. Hope you'll make it downtown to eat in Athens soon; there are so many great choices -- have you tried The National, or Farm 255 before?

So is Harry's officially gone now? Last I understood was that someone may buy one of the locations and that it would hopefully reopen. Is that no longer in the works?

Brian, we keep hoping that a deal will come through, but I haven't seen anything official yet.
